Value Scales for the Illusion of Depth

Starry Night Town

First graders watched this demo video before making a town of their own!

Playground Portrait

Foreground, middle ground and background, foreshortening...this video has it all!

First graders watched this step by step video on drawing parts of the face (VERY simplified!). The best part about this video is that I could loop the video so that the students had instruction and I could walk around the room and monitor progress.  I have found a way to clone myself! :)

Model Magic Owl

Night Tree

This video provides the step by step directions students need to create a tree at night using value to create depth.  This tree is inspired by the book Sky Tree by Thomas Locker.

Kandinsky Directions

Wassily Kandinsky was an artist who could HEAR colors! In this project, students learn all about Kandinsky and his non-objective art (which is just lines, shapes and colors, no objects).  They then create a drawing based on the directions in the video below, using lines and shapes.  In the next class, they add color using paint!
